"Swain said the team's trainers thought the high white boots Denney was wearing as part of his cheerleader outfit may have prevented a more serious injury."

- Best quote from this incident.

Man, when I'm a professor I want to be able to go to major news organizations and say shit like this (from Reuters -- a story about Conan replacing Jay Leno in 2009):

"I think if you put Conan on at 11:30 right now, you'd have a lot of Leno viewers scratching their heads over the self-pleasuring bear and Triumph the Dog (a foul-mouthed dog puppet)," said Robert Thompson, a professor of pop culture at Syracuse University.

"But by 2009, most of the audience that doesn't get Conan probably is not going to be up until 11:30 anyway."

This weekend is the famous Austin City Limits Festival, and I know that it is one of the selling points of moving to Austin, but seeing as how we are not getting any paychecks soon we kind of came to the decision that we should not go. Well, for a couple of reasons.

1. The only good day that we could conceive of going is tomorrow (Friday). Decent acts: Ryan Adams, Neko Case, and Patty Griffin (!!). I'm picky like that when it comes seeing bands (see the schedule).

2. 3-day passes were something like $75 a pop. Ouch! One-day passes were $35. Mind you, we'd be buying 2 tickets. When you're unemployed, that's a lot of beer you could be buying instead of going to a show.

3. The weather has soared into the near-100's and there is no way I'm going to AN ALL-DAY OUTDOOR FESTIVAL. Plain and simple.

Instead, I think it'd be fun to wander around Austin and take a bunch of pictures. I've been really lazy about that since we moved here. But did I mention that it's gonna be HECKA HOT tomorrow??

Life in Austin is absolutely amazing, if not only for the simple fact that you can drive across town in 10 minutes. It's strange, because when I was living and commuting in Los Angeles, I could go through two albums worth of music in a day. Now, I'm lucky to go through a few songs in a day. And I don't even have to drive all that much since there's a UT Shuttle stop right by our place. On top of that, gas is 2/3 the price it is in LA. And did I mention I've only bought TWO tanks of gas in the five week's we've been here? Totally radical.

So I've made it a point to start paying a little more attention to what we've been eating. Since moving away from LA (and away from any Trader Joe's), we've been eating like piggies. Not a good idea, I guess.

This isn't the first health kick I've gone on, so I guess it will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Since the move to Texas, I haven't changed the time in Greymatter. So everything that's been posted lately has been off by 2 hours. Except for this post. Hurrah.

I've gotten hives three times since Thursday. The weird thing is that they only occur at night. I'm trying to figure out if it's stress that's causing them or possibly the recent hellish mosquito bites I've been plagued with. I've pretty much ruled out food. I guess the best part of the itchiness and grotesque swelling is getting whacked out on Benadryl.

But really, I'm at the point when every time I get itchy and it turns out it's hives, I say to myself, "Thank goodness it's not a mosquito bite!"

Seriously, this just doesn't sound like a great idea.

Especially funny when you have an Uncle Kevin (from the Onion a little whiles backs):
